Just joined this blog in conjunction with the Rav Group. I am crazy for this scarf pattern and just started my third Chevron this week. I am using STR Medium Weight in Muddy Autumn Rainbow and Tide Pooling. So far, so great!! I'll post a pic when I get further along. Thanks so much for letting me join.

Hi KAL'rs. It's been a long while since we've seen posts here and I've been getting a lot of email as of late with renewed interest. This is fabulous news. I look forward to reading of all your adventures with the Chevron Scarf and seeing pictures.

I made this Chevron as part of a swap. I used Malibrigo Silk blend in both Purple in Olive to knit this beauty up. It is now in the hands of it's new owner in Texas :-)

I finally cast on for my Chevron Scarf so I am officially "knitting along"...I had a change of plans and am not using the Socks that Rock...I am using two skeins of yarn I dyed with my very own hands! Makes the pattern a little less tedious...It's coming along nicely. I have inlcuded a photo of the start. I've made more progress, but this shows the yarn.

I finished my first Chevron scarf this week. Hooray! I used Socks that Rock Watermelon Tourmaline and Socks that Rock Farmhouse. Towards the end, I did start calling this the neverending scarf. I think I was antsy and ready to finish it and move onto my next project. Definitely a fun knit. It was also fun to watch the colorways mix together.

Well, the more I knit on my scarf, the more I was worried about how scratchy it would be on someones neck!!! I decided to frog it, and have started another. This is going to be a Christmas gift for my oldest boy next year. Here it is in all its itty bitty glory:)

Dear all,

I've got big plans for Chevron Scarf city here at Wanderlust Knits. I'm full to bursting with plans for colour combinations for people I know and love. But the biggest barrier to actually following through on these was not a lack of yarn (considering I've already bought it) or a shortage of needles (how many 3.75mm needles do I own? You don't want to know...) or even lack of passion for the project despite the intervening months.(1st project conceived in May, first scarf started in June) Nope.

My biggest problem was straights vs. circs. I have straight needles everwhere. I like them for some things, but I hands down and 100%ly hated them for this project. It turns out that, despite how much I want to love straights, I just ain't a straight kinda girl. (Take that how you will. It's probably true on more than just needle-y levels.) For months and months and months (6 to be more or less exact) I only made about 5inches progress on my scarf. Holding the long (14in) straights really bothered me (10in is more my thing) and the Brittany Birch needles don't have particularly pointy tips (which wasn't perfect for k2tog or kfb) and the yarn doesn't slip along the needles very well, they're not slick like bamboo needles.

I did happen to have some new Addi Lace Circs in stash for another project I'd just finished (Hello Aubergine Shawlette, glad to finally meet you) in exactly the right size so I switched them over 3 or 4 days ago. After 6 months with less than an inch per month (1 inch total per month if I'm feeling generous) and within days of switching from dull birch straights to pointy metal circs I'm now just over halfway there. I don't have a measuring tape here at work but I've just measured it against my leg (which is looong folks) and it goes from my hip down to the floor. The scarf is for someone who's approximately much shorter than I am so I reckon in another two or three days I'm done.

This is fantastic progress after so much project guilt! My friend will definitely have it in time for Christmas, and as a recent poster (Kristin wasn't it?) just said it's already cold in Washington so the gift is long overdue! Furthermore the colour combo is fantastic (thanks, Tiennie!!). It's STR Mediumweight in Monsoon and Footzey
Foo. I am so chuffed at the colours I'm thinking of making one for myself! After I make the other 6 I've got planned anyway. :)

Much of my progress was made this weekend in the car and on the ferry ride to France and then in the car around France and then in the car and ferry ride back from France. Also, much TV knitting has been done. And it knits up so fast! Amazing how a project grows more when you work on it than when you don't!

Also, I recently bought a lovely project bag from Piddleloop and I put my two huge STR yarn cakes into the bag so that they sit side by side. This makes it SO much easier to change colours. I don't have to worry about tangles or fiddling with moving one ball under the other. I just turn the bag so the working yarn (new colour) can be picked up in front of the old colour and then back again at the next change. It's genius. I'm sure you all have thought of this before but it's a new and wonderful revelation to me. I've got this Chevron thing down pat! (Except for the time when I k2tog on the wrong coloured row, and the time I knit the patterend row, purled all the way back, and then became convinced that I'd knit it in plain stocking stitch and tinked or lruped all the way back only to find I HAD done it right. Except for that I've got it down pat.)

It's seriously unblocked though so you know, curly scarf photos. Everyone's favourite. But I just have to show you my progress!

I just got a skien in a swap it is from Socks that Rock and I just love the colors.. but I only have 1 skien- 325 yards- would this be enough yarn to do a nice sized chevron scarf?
I am working on one right now- out of 2 skiens of spaced dyed cashmere- 87% cashmere 13% nylon it is turning out lovely..

I finished my Chevron last night. While it was very slow going for me, I will definitely knit again once I come up with the right color combination.

For this Chevron, I used STR in Lucy and Little Bunny Foo Foo. I knit it about 7" shorter than called for, not that I feared running out of yarn, I just felt that it was long enough for me.

I have been dying to start this project since seeing the wonderful work of some the members, most notably Shannon of Minerva Turkey.

Anyhoo, after some last minutes changes to this last minute gift project, I have decided to take a chance and use a different type and weight of yarn than the pattern suggests. I will be using two skeins of Marshmallow from Decadent Yarns.

This is a sport weight yarn made from 80% alpaca and 20% merino fibers. This will be the first time I have used this yarn. I purchased it on a whim at Rhinebeck last month.

With cooler weather starting here, I was spurred on to finish up last night, and finally, here it is.

I used Scout's Swag merino "Orchids" and Fleece Artist merino 2/6 "Moss, and did a slight modification to the pattern.

Hi everyone! :) I've never posted here, but I've been part of the KAL for a few months. I've finally gotten the courage to cast-on again for a colorway that I've been a little iffy about. I started this a while ago and had to frog it because I was pulling too tightly on the right side. I'm using Claudia Hand Painted Yarns (fingering weight) in Purple Midnight and Passion Fruit colorways. While I love the yarns independent of each other (and think that both would make fabulous socks!), I am still unsure of the two together. Actually, I do love the blues, reds, and purples. The only thing that I don't like is the tan. Passion Fruit has some tan in it, but it didn't seem to be much when it was in the skein or cake. However, now that it's knitting up, there's a little too much of it for my taste. I'm going to continue on, though. If I end up still not liking it once it's done, I'm sure that my uncle (yes, my uncle!) would love the combination of colors. He just loves really bright colors. Anyhoo - anyone can throw in their two cents if they have any ideas. :)

Success on the Chevron Front!

Well, after several months of knitting (work has been nuts, so down time has been limited) my first chevron scarf is complete. I am very happy with the ways that the colors worked together. This will definitely not languish in the closet. I am thrilled to be adding this to my closet. Full details are available over on my blog, knitting harvest. I will definitely do another one of these, probably as a gift for the next holiday season. Handmade knits are not in the cards for this season, but I will be shopping on Etsy for all in support of others' handmades.

I, (finally), started my scarf two nights ago. I had the yarn here, though I had planned on using both skeins for different projects. I changed my mind and this is what I came up with:

It's Blue Moon Fiber Arts In the Navy and Space Dust. I am knitting this on US 4's. So far I am about9 or 10 inches into the scarf. I was up til about 2 a.m. working on it, slowly, while watching news coverage about the fires out here in California. One of them is quite close to my house, so I was waiting to see if we would be evacuated. Thank goodness I had my knitting!

Hi there everyone! I was so excited to finally start my Chevron Scarf two weeks ago. I finally gave in and purchased the yarn at my local store, even though I'm supposed to be on a self imposed yarn diet.

Hello! This is my first entry on this KAL, and I've finally started the Chevron Scarf. It's an easy pattern with great results! I'm sure the endurance factor will kick in soon, as I begin to wonder just how long 75 inches really takes to knit......Hmm.......

I'm using yarn from Fearless Fibers (Etsy). The colorways are "Sublime" and Infatuation." Does anyone have any great straight needles that they are using? I'm not loving the ones that I have right now, and I'm in the market for new ones....I'm such a fan of circs, but this project is probably better suited to straights. I'm open to any suggestions!

Hello everyone, I'm new here! My SP11 hostess invited me to join after she saw my Chevron on my blog so here I am!

I blatantly "stole" my colour combination from Tiennie of Tiennie Knits but I have two more planned (if I can ever finish this one).

I want to love the needles, but I just can't. They're too long. I either need shorter straights or some circular needles, so I think I'll admit this to myself now and then pick up some Addis at iKnit when I head down for next week's knit night. Then I might actually finish it. (This needle preference is a complete turnaround. I used to hate circs...)

Anyway, here's the latest glamour shot of my scarf. It will be a gift for a friend back home in Seattle (incidentally, sorry Tiennie, but that means there will be three scarves of this exact colour combination running around the same part of the world. Probably not the best choice on my part now that I think of it. But it's so perfect for my friend I didn't really think before running to Blue Moon to get more yarn!)

The yarn is Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock mediumweight and the colours are "Monsoon" (the darker colour, and the Rockin' Sock Club 2007 yarn for February) and Footzey Foo.

I've started on my second Chevron scarf, using Socks that Rock Mediumweight in Backstabber (maroons) and Chapman Springs (blues/teals with accents of lemon and maroon). I'm already planning the colors for the next one....

I added the 'fancy ends' to the needles myself using polymer clay; it adds to the enjoyment of knitting with scrumptious yarn to use fun and funky needles.

I made mine from 2 skeins Koigu KPPM (the turquoise) and one of Cherry Tree Hill Supersock (the red). I think I used size 5 needles.

I was worried about how it would look before I blocked it and it still wants to form ribs as it hangs. . . I haven't worn it yet, it's still too hot, but I hope it keeps its shape. It was a simple, fun things to knit.

Hello everyone! I am new to this group:o) I started this Chevron Scarf a few months ago and haven't been really good about working on it. I really love socks, so that takes up most my knitting time:o) Also, I have never been the type of knitter that can stick to one project until it's finished. I used to laugh at my sister when she counted the many projects that she was working on - but I understand now why that is possible:o)

Anyway, I am using STR in Lucy and Pucks Mischief and I am really loving the way it's knitting up. The color combo is very wearable for me - it has a great mix of neutal colors with little splashes of brighter color. Right now it's well over three feet long (that's what the marker is for) and hopefully joining this KAL is going to inspire me to finish it this year;o)

Hi Everyone. I just wanted to drop by and introduce myself. My name is Heather and I am new to this Knitalong. I am so glad that I found it. I started my Chevron scarf a couple of days ago. Here are a few pictures of the WIP. I am using Yarntini's "Pure Fall" and my Rockin' Sock Club August colorway "Flower Power". So far I like the way that this pattern is knitting up. My first attempt at this great pattern. The "will be frogged" part from my FLickr page is because I am not happy with the color blend of the 2 yarns I picked from Artsygal's collection - they are gorgeous on their own, but together - there is too much brown for my intended FO.

So I am starting over with Lorna's Laces Bittersweet and Koigu KPPM in P610-45 (???) and will update with new piccies.

I've only been knitting this on the train back and forth to work and jumping in between two other "train" projects to do so. I've just reached past the half way mark and am at about 52". It feels like I have about 1/2 ball each of both yarns and am making slow progress.

Chevron Scarf #2

I just couldn't resist. This project is such an easy knit, and I really did want a project to keep in my purse to work on during lunch at my office. :) I am very happy with the way the two colors are blending. When I picked out these colourways I tried to pick something totally different from my first chevron scarf. I wanted something more subtle. These two are just close enough to each other to blend well, but they are different enough to add some variety. They are both Fiesta Boomerang. The one on the left is Plum Pudding, and the one on the right is Mochachino.

I will not knit this one as quick since it is not one of my main projects right now, but I will keep you all updated on my progress.

A little short, but done...

I finally gave up after letting this project languish. The colorway is great now that I am done but I was a bit sick of it while knitting and stopped around 70 inches. I blocked it using an iron per a recommendation from somewhere else in blogland.

Overall, I am very happy with how this turned out. It was a fairly fast knit, and the pattern is a snap. It is 75 inches long and about 6 inches wide. Since I used DK weight yarn I got a bit more bulk, but I really like that. In fact, I purchased two more skeins of Fiesta Boomerang from The Loopy Ewe last night to make another chevron scarf. I am very excited about the new color combo I chose. I hope it works out well. I picked two shades in the same color family so it will be very different from this one. This will be the perfect project to keep in my purse so that I have something to work on at work during my lunch break. When I actually take a lunch break that is. :)

Almost Halfway There

I'm about halfway there on the scarf. I was worried at the start that the colors were pooling a bit, but realized that the mistake was mine since I wasn't bringing yarn A in front of yarn B and vice versa on every other row.

Once I straightened it out and re-read the directions, then I was set.

The picture below is where I am at today.

I'm almost done the first two skeins, and I've got some built in knitting time this weekend, so I should be on to the second two skeins by Monday.

My Chevron scarf is finished!

The colours are a bit less pastel than it looks, but it is hard to get the right colours in a photo.It is 150 cm long because I like to twist it around my neck. The yarn I have used is OnLine sockyarn, and I have used one skein. I am NOT looking forward to the soon arriving autum here in Norway - and then a long cold winter - but I look forward to wearing this scarf!

Hello, I'm happy to have found this knitalong and joined in, looks like it will be fun. I've seen these lovely scarfs all over the blogs and had to give it a whirl. For this one I'm using two coordinating yarns (I noticed most are more contrasting) and am liking the result so far.

I'm hoping to get more inspired to finish this - although am a little overwhelmed with sock knitalongs at the moment - wish me luck!

I have been working on my chevron scarf off and on, and I am very happy with how it is turning out. It is 58 inches long now, and I still have quite a bit of yarn left. Originally I planned to knit until I ran out of yarn, but I think the scarf will be 10 feet long if I do that. I think I will go to 75 inches and stop. That will give me good wrap around without hanging down to my knees. So I am torn. What do I knit with the left overs? Should I knit a simple hat, a set of fingerless gloves, socks...hmmm... Any opinions?

Here is a shot of the scarf this morning. This thing was very hard to photograph. Not only due to it's size, but the colors are so hard to capture. This photo shows the colors the best, but it is still not 100% accurate. Once I finish it and block it I will take some pics outside in "real" light.

Does anyone have any tips on blocking for this scarf? This is going to be my first foray into blocking something other than socks.

Wow, that was one long scarf. I'm done, with this one that is. I finished the scarf actually two nights ago, but had to wait for the batteries for my camera to recharge. Now that that is done it's pouring out of buckets here and there is no better picture possible. Anyway, here it is, my fuzzy chevron scarf in all it's 85 inch glory.

Don't ask me why I took that second shot since I know you can zoom in if you want to.

I just kept on knitting this scarf until I had no more yarn. The funny thing about it is, that I used two yarns that, except for the fuzzyness, had nothing in common what so ever. At least not that I knew off, and they both ran out at about the same time.

What a coincidence. So I guess that means they were made for each other. Now, what to do with the other lonely ball of blue yarn?

Today I finally started my chevron scarf by choosing a yarn from Opal and a superfine alpaca yarn. The Opal yarn I used is from a special collection inspired by the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, and is made of a mixture from natural fibers. As the foundation color (second color) I decided on a dark purple superfine alpaca yarn. Together both yarns are warm and coexist in harmony with each other. What I mean, neither yarn trumps over the other. It floats perfectly into one great knit. I received the Opal yarn from a dear friend in Germany and had not yet found a suitable project for it. The purple alpaca yarn is one of the many yarns my husband brought back from his trip to Peru last summer. At first I wasn’t sure if both colors go together since the Hunderwasser colors are bright. It seemed that the yellow and greenish colors are almost like neon bright colors with a lighter and softer pink/purple/blue/red/orange in the mix. However, combining both colors gave the scarf, in my humble opinion, a warm and rich color formation.
I like the pattern because it is so easy to remember. I also decided not to use the “knit in front and back” method to make a new stitch. I’d rather pull the horizontal strain of yarn from the back to the front and knit it through the back. It seems the m1 looks better that way, but that’s my say. It’s not written in stone. You can call it MY habit because it's my preferred method of an increase.

I just wanted to update you on my fuzzy Chevron Scarf, which has been steadily growing and I had to roll it up into a jelly roll to keep it under control. Of course I have the advantage of having to knit less rows, since my yarn requires bigger needles, but nevertheless, I've been knitting away and today, coming near the end of the balls, I had to see where we stand. The scarf is as long as I am tall (and I tell you I'm not short either) and if it stretches out like I think it will, I'll end up wrapping this around my neck and still get it down to my knees (both of them).

I'll finish off the yarn and then try to get the whole thing in one shot. I swear, I don't want to brag, but I'm sure happy about the outcome of the scarf in that yarn.

Remember this? This is how far I got before I decided to frog it. It was looking way too much like tie dye and all the red was bugging the crap out of me. My second attempt involved farmhouse from this first attempt and a skein of golden olive from knitting notions. Ehh...not so much. I really wanted to use the golden olive for a pair of socks but was willing to sacrifice the skein if it was going to work. Fortunately, to my advantage, it didn't. My third (and hopefully final attempt!) consists of a tvyarn from white oak studio in the Anne of Green Gables colorway and some hand-dyed gifted to me from a stitchmarker exchange pal that comes from Raven Frog Fiber Arts (in Alaska). The yarn is called Elegante and the colorway is Kelp Bed. Here's what I've got so far:Now this color combo I absolutely love. It was hard finally finding a combo (in my stash!) that would work but I did it and it was worth it.

I'm thinking that I would love to have a hat to match my chevron scarf, however I have no idea how to design one. I think it would be possible to knit this pattern in the round, but the decreasing to get to the top of the head would totally baffle me. Has anyone done this?

Knitting Mama's Chevron Update

I've been working today on my Chevron Scarf. I've completed 33 pattern repeats. I've got about 19 inches knit so far, and only about 10g per color used up. I've calculated this out. The pattern says it's approx. a 77 and a half inch scarf. 19 inches gets me 10 grams used. The skeins are 150 gram (mediumweight). So I figured it out, and I need approx about 40 grams each per color more. If I make the size that is in the pattern. Which means I should have about or around 100 grams left of each color when the scarf is done. I'm thinking there may be enough for a pair of socks with the Rhodonite (since no one was able to locate me a skein, and I refuse to pay 22$US to ship 1 x 19$ skein to Canada). I may have to do the heel in another colorway (which is fine by me), but I think I have enough for socks!!! This makes me happy. I think I may even try them toe up! (This way I'm guaranteed to know how long I can make the leg part). Anyhow, we'll see how much the Chevron Scarf uses. I might just have enough leftovers! Because I'm in love with the Rhodonite colorway!

Well, the yarn I ordered to knit the chevron scarf arrived today from Loopy Ewe. I chose Fiesta Boomerang sock yarn in Cosmopolitan (the reds and oranges) and Taos (the blues and browns). This yarn is super soft, and the colors are breathtaking. They are a joy to knit with. I started my scarf tonight at my local knitting group. Here is my progress thus far.

I am so happy that I joined this KAL. It has forced me to start this project...finally!

I finally wrapped my yarn into balls and cast on. I'm using Lorna Laces Sheppard Sock and as much as I love this yarn... BOTH... BOTH skeins had not only a knot in them, but a fray.... Is that normal with Lorna's???

Finally I have started on my Chevron Scarf. I needed to finish some other works first, but now I'm done. I knit this scarf in a yarn called OnLine - it is a sockyarn - a mix of wool and cotton. It is very soft and I love it. Not much to see yet, but I will post a photo when my work is a bit longer.

Hello I'm Trish from randomthreads and I started on my Chevron scarf last night. I'm using two colors of Medium-weight Socks That Rock in Algae (the lighter color) and Rare Gems (the darker color)...aren't the colors yummy together? This is the first time I have knit with medium-weight STR, and it is wonderful--a tight twist makes for a smooth finish on the yarn. The pattern is easy to memorize and I'm already planning what other color combinations I should knit next!

Okay, I wound up the skein of yarn I'm going to use. I'm only doing one colorway rather than switch between two. I'm using Sunset Yarns (now known as Cherry Blossom Fibers) in the colorway Lush, I received it from my SP9 pal. It's a hand-dyed superwash merino wool - this is so pretty. Tomorrow? I want so badly to get started on my scarf but I have a couple of other things that I need to complete first. For whatever reason they are just taking sooooo long. Maybe that's just my perception because I have major startitis and want to get going on this NOW. There are some very pretty yarns being used out here, that's going to be a challenge for me as I do have a quite a few to choose from (bummer, eh?) but I think I'm up for the challenge!

With scarf #1 that is!! I have two other color combos picked out for MORE!! A very easy and addictive pattern. I did make mine a bit shorter though, but I still am very pleased with the results!!

My Chevron Scarf has progress! I am LOVING the colors together. That's Blue Moon Fiber Art's Socks that Rock in Rhondonite & Black Onyx in Mediumweight. I'm not liking the bamboo needles I'm using in 4mm. (Us6) I'm thinking about switching to ~~aluminum~~ plastic (my sparkly ones!) . (Just checked my stash, I don't have aluminum in US6 - I have every other size imaginable, just no US6. I'll have to get a pair the next time I'm out somewhere that sells. Anyhow, the bamboo's are making this a rough knit. The yarn is not liking the bamboo! (Good to know for sock knitting with STR!)

Jasmine Chevron Scarf

This is the Chevron Scarf made of Harrisville Designs Jasmine yarn. Colors are Angles Trumpet and Curry Leaf. This is a plied yarn, one is a solid wool and the other is a variegated rayon chenille. I adjusted the pattern to be three/six stitch repeat instead of four/eight repeat since it is about four stitches to the inch on US 7's. Finial measurement is 72" x6". I am really happy with the way the colors worked and am very disappointed that this yarn seems to be discontinued.

After a visit to Purl this weekend and many views of what folks are doing with the Chevron scarf and color combinations, I took the plunge and bought some Koigu and Last Minute Knitted Gifts. Below are the two color combinations that I am working with and the beginning of the scarf. I am anxious to see how it all works out, and think that I may be planning a few of these for holiday gifts this year. The two Koigu colors that I chose are #P107 on the left and on the right is #P524d.

So here is how my scarf is looking so far:

I'm using Highway 30 and Lunasea, at first I didn't like how they looked but now I think it's grown on me because I really like how it looks. Also I'm wondering if anyone else's is sort of scrunched together where the 1st and last k8 f&b are? I'm hoping that a good block job will fix it. Hopefully I'm not knitting too tight.

My scarf is progressing!
I finally got my yarn in the mail on Friday and I was pleased with the colors of the yarn separately but not sure how they would work together:

This is Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock - the skein on the left is Georgetown and the one on the right is Lake View.
Fortunately they seem to get along alright as I knit them up together.

It's slow going but mostly because I stop every four rows to admire my progress and look at the flow of the colors as they shift and change.
Perhaps I should follow the axiom (if there is one): Less lookie, more knitty.

Usually little kids hear that from their not so favorite aunt, that wants to squeeze the heck out of them, but it's also true for this scarf. It's grown to a size of 33 inches in about a week.

Wow, like a weed. Well, I have to admit I have the advantage to all the other knitters in this KAL that I, the oddball, am not using sock yarn but some other mystery yarn I found in my stash and with those 5.5 mm needles it's really not a big deal to be zooming along. I have no idea how much yardage I get from these two balls of yarn, but I guess I'll figure that out at some point in time. Until then I'll be knitting and purling and watching this baby grow.

New Chevron, 1 Color The Same!

So, I spent a day or so thinking about my Chevron scarf, and what I wanted to do about it. I decided to pull out a skein of BMFA's Rhondonite, in medium weight, and see how it would look in my chevron scarf with the Black Onyx.

I couldn't believe that there was a knot in this skein too! It's the 2nd skein from this same order, with a knot to tie the yarn together. Total disappointment. What's my luck?

And.... I present to you know, Rhondonite & Black Onyx together. I think they go so well together. Finally - I'm happy about this project. I'm loving the pink mixes in Rhondonite.

The knot in the skein, turned out that it was at the beginning of the cake I wound. Grrr. Not the end of the world, I'll weave it in, but that sucks. Wasn't expecting that to show up. And on top of it, I tried to knit straight with it in there, but it undid as I started knitting .... so I had to take out a few stitches to leave enough to weave in the ends. Grrr!

The dullness of the greys work so well with pinks! Why didn't I think of this in the first place??

Oh, and I'm using 4mm (US6) needles, not 3.75mm (US5) like the pattern calls for. I knit tight.

I'm using Socks That Rock Medium Weight in the Lucy and Little Bunny Foo Foo colorways.
Honestly, I don't notice much difference in the two colorways except that Lucy has blue in it and Little Bunny Foo Foo has pink in it. However, that said, I'm loving the way that this is knitting up.

Not Liking It At All.... Ugh!

A box arrived this morning from Blue Moon. I had ordered about a month ago some yarn in mediumweight for the Chevron Scarf. I was not pleased to have to pay duty on this order. Whenever I receive my sock club kit, the value is always low, and I never have to pay duty. I could swear, that the last time I ordered STR from there, I didn't have to pay duty on the 6 skeins I ordered. This time, another story. 24$ and change in duty taxes.

I was also not pleased to see this knot in my yarn when I wound it into a cake. Luckily, it's at the end of the skein, when wound, so maybe I won't get to it.

Last night at the knitting meetup, I cast on and worked on my Chevron Scarf. However, I'm not liking this color combination. I think I had something else pictured in my mind, and well, I do not like this at all. It'll be getting frogged, and I'm not sure what I'm going to try out instead. I do have other color combinations to try, so we'll see. I'll let you know what I come up with.

I'm just not really impressed with the black onyx with this. The fire on the mountain is fun and vibrant, and I thought the "black" onyx would make it jump, but the black onyx is just really dull grey tones, and I don't like it. Looks like my husband may be getting a pair of grey socks.

Some people on my blog suggested that I maybe start with the other colorway and reverse how I started it, but I do not think that will make a difference at all, unfortunately. It doesnt matter which order I do the yarn in... it still gives two rows each of the color, and they just do not go together, in my opinion!

.... they looked better on the computer monitor together when I ordered them!

Hmmm, take two as in two yarns or the second try. Well, it's both. After my first attempt of this scarf didn't even make it close to the camera I took another look at my stash, from a totally different angle and guess what, I found something.

At first I didn't really know how it would work out, but why not give it a try. Since the sock yarn wasn't soft enough to go around mine or anybody else's neck I wanted to be on the sure side and this is what I found in my stash. Don't ask me what it is. The greenish one is totally fuzzy, the blue is something with acrylic, wool and viscose. That's all I can tell you.

I'm knitting it on 5.5 mm needles and it's getting really light and airy. I love it. I especially like the way the color changes on the fuzzy yarn. I was planning on knitting this as an early Christmas present for I don't know yet who, but I might just keep it for myself. Sorry, but it's growing on me. It's just funny what unexpected potential sleeps in your stash, even if that makes me the odd ball that is totally going against the grain. I was even thinking of using fun fur, but I didn't want to shock everybody too much at one time.

Hate to be a poser

I really hate to be a poser on this blog, but I swear, I was working on my chevron scarf yesterday and I did like the knitting and the colors, but the only thing I didn't like was the yarn. It was sock yarn and definitely not soft enough for even my worst enemies neck. I should have taken a picture of it, but out of frustration I ripped it out faster than you can yell "Gimme the camera". So, sorry, I have nothing to show for. But I know there is something in my stash just waiting for me to find it to knit it into this great scarf. It's just a matter of running into it.

This has been an interesting knit but very frustrating. I have dropped more stitches on this than I have in months! My tension is wonky and I am not happy with my work but hopefully a little blocking will help that!

I finished this Chevron Shawl on the 14th of June, but just got its picture up. It is made from two colors of Lion brand Homespun and is 22" x 55" without blocking. I did it in a three stitch pattern instead of four.

I also have a scarf I am doing on the needles and it is in two colors of Jasmine. I will get a picture of it soon. Now that this shawl is done, I don't have to chooses between them as which one to work on! I am going to start another one soon though as we have several baptisms coming up at church. The new one will be all white and approximately 45" square for use as a baby blanket. I just love this pattern. Interesting enough to keep me going, mindless enough that I can do it during meetings.

I cast on my scarf last night at knitting group - I was initially nervous about the STR Mystic Kelp and Lunasea when looking at them side by side in the skein, but once I wound them into cakes, I felt much better. When I cast it on, I was in LOVE!

I am so excited! I have enough for 2 scarfs. The colors on the left are cape cod memories and redwood forest and they are both from knitpicks. Very inexpensive yarn but I love it!
The other picture is rocky mountain dusk and Yukon. Those are the ones I cast on. It was not a knitting night for me last night. I was dropping stitches and very distracted by my children but I can hardly wait to get back at it today!

I've been working on and then dropping my chevron for a while now. Currently we are in the middle of a move across the country so it is packed away. It will be pulled back out next week and hopefully done soon since it is so close... 67 inches! It's made in only one color, Artyarns 105, but using two skiens to avoid pooling, which wasn't quite successful. The result is a kind of "impressionist" version of the Chevron. :P

It's a start and on the needles...out here in the Pacific Northwest.

I'm using Knit Picks Memories in "Fly Fishing" and "Smores" colorways with my Clover US 5 - 9inch length bamboo needles.

Not the fastest knit, but a simple, memorable pattern that will be great when watching my summer-pick dvd's from Netflix.

Hey all! I've been a part of the flickr group for awhile and am glad to see a KAL for the Chevron Scarf. I've finished 2 so far:
Yep, they're almost exactly the same except for the length. These are STR Monsoon and STR Footzey-Foo. One was for me and one for my best friend. Mine ended up shorter than hers since I knit mine second. If you like more info you can read about it here and here. I have another one on the needles right now:

Hi everyone! Just now getting around to posting since my first chevron scarf attempt was hideous and I ripped it out. I found a much (much) better color combo and here's what I've got done:

I'm using STR Mediumweight in Lunasea and Little Bunny Foo Foo. I really like how the pink, cream, and brown in the Foo Foo breaks up the aquas and greens in the Lunasea. Plus, the pink means that it will match my winter coat! WooHoo!
